Water Heater - Gas and Electric 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This three-hour class is an introduction and overview of operation, maintenance and repair of a typical residential grade water heater tank. The course will present and clarify operation fundamentals of the Natural Gas Burner and In-Tank Electrode water heaters, and typical equipment parts layout and design. It will identify major serviceable components and maintenance procedures used to set-up, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and clean a typical residential grade water heater.

Topics covered in this class will include:

  • Safety when making repairs
  • Introduction to the dynamics of heating water
  • Major components of a gas fired tank
  • Major components of an electric fired tank
  • Thermostat control system and components: Gas
  • Thermostat and control system and components: Electric
  • Trouble-shooting common work order issues and complaints
  • Common repairs
  • Testing Electrical Components with a Multi-Meter
  • Preventative Maintenance

Mold & Mildew:  12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This 1.5 hour course is designed to be a starting place for any maintenance technician no matter his/her skill level. The "MOLD & MILDEW" course is designed to explain and clarify the qualities, characteristics, and most common sites and causes of a mold growth, and when found, how to identify them. We will review what a complete repair process for an interior wall growth, accounting for replacement wallboard and structural materials, including the selection and use of tools and consumables. The course will present an overview of trouble-shooting the causes of mold, with several accepted mitigation solutions including regular maintenance service of each.

Topics covered in this class will include:

  • Safety procedures, PPE, and cleaning chemicals
  • The basics of mold and mildew. What they are, what the need to start, what lets them grow.
  •  Identifying the most common types of Mold and Mildews in a residential setting
  • Most common sites of Mold or Mildew colonies, and what condition caused the growth
  • Most common repairs - plumbing, laundry, kitchen, bathrooms
  • Details of a typical wall space repair, replace and rebuild
  • Commercial cleaners and chemicals for remediation and maintenance
