Oceanside Votes to Create Program to Assist with Screening Fees
Last week, the Oceanside City Council directed city staff to move forward with a program to educate housing providers and renters about Reusable Tenant Screening Reports(RTSRs) and to create a pilot funding program. SCRHA met with councilmembers and city staff in recent months to explain the screening process and why mandating the use of RTSRs would negatively impact the industry. SCRHA encouraged education and outreach since the RTSRs law is still very new, and the reports don’t include some items that housing providers screen for as part of their rental criteria. The pilot program will provide funding for lower income families who may find themselves applying for numerous rental properties. Rent Increase Figure Now Available for Imperial County
Rent increases in Imperial County that take effect August 1 or later will be limited to no more than 9.2%. The state recently provided the numbers needed to calculate the max increase. As previously reported, rent increases in San Diego County will be limited to 10%, while increases in Riverside County will be limited to 9.6%. Read more. 

Reminder: Participate in Property Insurance Survey
SCRHA’s statewide partner CalRHA recently issued a press statement about rising insurance costs and asking the Insurance Commissioner to step in to help stabilize the insurance market. CalRHA is still collecting data from property owners and managers. SCRHA members are encouraged to share their experience. Click here to read more.
