SCRHA Updates - Office Closure & Legislative Updates
In light of recent declarations from State and Local government, the SCRHA office will be closed for the time being as a precautionary measure. Please DO NOT show up at our 5675 Ruffin Road location until circumstances have changed and SCRHA notifies you that the office has re-opened.
SCRHA staff will be available to assist members via phone and email. For Operational Advice, please call 858-278-8070 and follow the prompts or leave a message in the main mailbox. Please be patient as we transition to this alternate work schedule. We will be returning calls and emails in the order they are received and as soon as we can.
Important Notice: The Governor and Legislature are strongly considering eviction and foreclosure moratoriums. They are also working on an emergency funding package that will give the Governor a few billion dollars to spend as needed in response to this pandemic. The legislature, we understand, will be around long enough this week to vote on that package and then recess until April 13. Many local governments, including the City of San Diego, are weighing similar bans. The details of the statewide moratorium are expected to be released later today. Our local and state lobbyists will work government leaders in hopes of minimizing negative impacts to rental owners and managers, but please understand that this is a public health crisis and this emergency scenario does not allow for traditional stakeholder input. SCRHA will share more information as it becomes available.
Price Gouging rules are in effect statewide. Please refer to our White Paper "CPC 396 - Anti-Price Gouging Rules - AB 1919" to learn more about rent increases and vacant unit pricing during declared emergencies.
As a reminder:
- All SCRHA classes and events in March are cancelled.
- Committee meetings will be conducted virtually. Staff will reach out to committee members directly with instructions.
- As of now, the Innovations in Rental Housing Conference & EXPO is still scheduled for April 21. However, SCRHA is working closely with the convention center to respond and reschedule should circumstances change.
- Online access to rental forms, white papers, residents screening, and more remains operational. Please note that this could change if our service providers experience shutdowns. Members may wish to download and save to their computers any forms that may be needed in the near future.
