LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Imperial Beach to Explore Tenant Protections
Yesterday evening (Dec. 4), the Imperial Beach City Council formed an Ad Hoc Committee to explore additional tenant protections. The discussion came about due to many long-term residents from two rental complexes repeatedly asking council for help after receiving legally compliant termination of tenancy notices. After lengthy discussion, at a hearing that went well past 10:30 p.m., the council agreed to discuss additional tenant protection options while also considering a moratorium on evictions. SCRHA reiterated that state law has already become more restrictive for No-Fault Termination of Tenancy and urged the council to include all stakeholders in any future discussions to help avoid unintended consequences. The structure and timeline for the Ad Hoc meetings have not been set. SCRHA will provide updates as they become available. Read more. In the meantime, SCRHA is compiling a list of housing provider contact information to share with the city so they can assist displaced residents. If you would like to add your contact information to this list, please email mkirkland@socalrha.org. You may also add listings to AffordableHousing.com.
