Chula Vista Council to Receive Staff Report on TPO Updates
While no action will be taken next week, the city council will receive a report from city staff on December 12 regarding changes to the city’s Tenant Protection Ordinance (TPO) that will be required to comply with state law. SB 567 (Durazo) takes effect on April 1, 2024. It alters some of the rules that pertain to No-Fault Just Cause. Local ordinances must comply with state law but also provide additional tenant protections. The agenda and relevant staff report will be available by 5 PM, Thursday, Dec. 7. City staff notified stakeholders that amendments to the TPO will likely be taken up in February. SCRHA will remain engaged to ensure that amendments are only made to comply with state law and/or improve the ordinance, and not place additional burdens on housing providers.
