City of Imperial Beach to Consider Tenant Protections on Dec. 4
Imperial Beach Mayor Aguirre has signaled that Tenant Protections will be a topic of discussion on the December 4 Council Agenda. Numerous tenants from two properties attended yesterday evening’s council hearing and shared that they received termination of tenancy notices for substantial remodel that will require them to leave by the end of January. While it appears that the property owners have gone beyond with noticing and other requirements under state law, the timing and pleas from tenants spurred Mayor Aguirre to add housing and renter’s protections to the upcoming agenda. It is unclear if there will be a draft ordinance or if it will simply be a discussion about a path forward. Thus far, the mayor has indicated she wishes to bring “substantial remodel evictions forward for an initial discussion.” Read more.
SCRHA is following the issue closely and will share more information as the agenda becomes available. In the interim, Imperial Beach property owners, managers, and residents are encouraged to contact the Mayor and Councilmembers and attend the December 4 hearing to share how restrictions beyond existing state law might impact your livelihood and harm the revitalization of IB.
