Legislative Update - August 8, 2024
SCRHA Advocacy Continues as Legislature Returns from Summer Recess
The State legislature returned to work this week after a month-long summer break. While there will be some policy committee hearings, most bills are in Appropriations Committee or on the floor of the Assembly or Senate. SCRHA has fought off most of the bad bills that came forward this year, but a few remain. SCRHA’s focus will be on AB 2801 (Friedman) which would alter the law on the return of security deposits and require photos at move-in and move-out, and AB 2747 (Haney) which would require that housing providers offer tenants the option of having positive rental payments reported to a consumer reporting agency. Make sure you signed up for SCRHA Action Alerts so you can make your voice heard on these bills. Click here if you missed the previous update on SCRHA’s legislative wins!
