Governor Declares Statewide Bird Flu Emergency, Anti-Price Gouging Rules in effect for Rental Housing
Yesterday, December 18, Governor Newson proclaimed a State of Emergency to streamline the state’s response to Avian influenza A (H5N1), commonly known as “Bird Flu.” Anti-price gouging regulations will be in place until January 17, 2025, unless extended by the Governor. Rent increases are limited to no more than 10% even for properties exempt from the Tenant Protection Act (AB 1482). Vacant units placed on the market during the emergency cannot be rented for more than 10% more than the previous tenant was charged.
