Imperial Beach Gives Final Approval to Tenant Protection Ordinance
On Wednesday evening (February 19) the Imperial Beach City Council approved an ordinance further regulating Just Cause Termination of Tenancy in the city. The ordinance was originally approved at the January 15 council meeting. The ordinance will become effective on March 22, 2025. The ordinance is primarily designed to add requirements when terminating tenancy for substantial remodel. Housing providers of properties of 15 or more units must pay additional months of relocation money. While some properties will be exempt from the ordinance, with proper notice in place, most rental properties will be subject to additional noticing requirements, including informing the city when terminating tenancy for at-fault and no-fault cause. SCRHA is finalizing guidance materials for Imperial Beach property owners and managers, as well as creating city-specific forms in advance of the March 22 noticing deadline. SCRHA will provide more updates in the near future as the city develops the administrative regulations. Read more.
