Share Rental Housing Provider Concerns on County Home Kitchen Proposal
State law created and allows for “microenterprise home kitchen operations”, also referred to as MEHKOs, as a new type of retail food facility to be operated by a resident in a private home. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has directed the Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) to create an ordinance authorizing MEHKO operations in San Diego County. DEHQ is soliciting feedback by conducting virtual public workshop meetings. SCRHA has expressed concerns that rental housing providers may be required to allow these operations, which could increase nuisance complaints, parking issues, and may leave a property owner with no ability to prevent or recoup costs for additional wear and tear on properties. The next public workshop is November 22, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Click here to RSVP.
