Prop. 33 Defeated - Voter Guide Update
You did it! Proposition 33 rejected by over 60% of voters!
With over 95% of precincts reporting, Proposition 33 is losing by 61.6%. SCRHA thanks all of the members who supported our efforts in the fight against the worst form of rent control. Your generous contributions helped get the message out to voters about the negative consequences of rent control.
California Rental Housing Association (CalRHA) President Earl Vaughn stated the following in a CalRHA press release this morning: “California voters demonstrated that they want a real solution to our affordable housing crisis by soundly rejecting Proposition 33’s ill-conceived rent control initiative. We have seen similar restrictions passed in other states, where they have had detrimental effects on the housing market. In New York, for example, severe rent control legislation has depressed new construction and resulted in more dilapidation of rental housing units. I am encouraged that Californians recognize the dangers of universal rent control.”
Proposition 34 is also leading with 51.5% of the vote. This measure would help ensure that Michael Weinstein cannot use profits from his foundation to fund a ballot measure like Prop. 33 for the fourth time.
While some SCRHA endorsed candidates were victorious, votes are still being counted in local elections. SCRHA will continue to update its Voter Guide as more results become available.
Thank you again for your support. SCRHA is honored to serve you and will continue to fight for your investment and ability to provide quality rental housing.
